Babine/Skeena Multi-Day Wilderness Kayak Trip

Join Aquabatics Instructional staff on a full raft supported trip down the wilderness Babine and Skeena rivers near Smithers BC. From world class rapids, to pristine campsites, magnificent surroundings to wildlife, this classic 6 day Class III/IV river trip has it all

The trip can be done in a shorter time frame, however we chose to take our time and add an extra day so we can make the most of the many play features and great teaching opportunities on this magnificent run.

Itinerary
  • Day 1:  Arrive in Smithers BC (either by land or air), overnight in 3 star accommodations
  • Day 2:  Drive to the put in at Nikiktkwa Lake, a mellow day of class I/II paddling gets us into the swing of things.
  • Day 3:  Today the paddling starts to get a little more challenging, interspersed with some mellow paddling.  Lots of Class II with the occasional Class III rapid is the order of the day.  Lots of hit on the fly play waves keep things super fun.
  • Day 4:  Today is an amazing day of paddling, we start to get into the more canyoned section of the Babine River.  We will be in the groove by now, running lots of Class III medium volume rapids, with the odd III+ drop thrown in for good measure.  Tonights camp (Waterfall camp), is arguably one of the coolest river campsites you will see.
  • Day 5:  Today is a pretty long day with the crux of the whitewater paddling, including the infamous Grizzly Drop and Kiskegas Canyon.  Pool drop in nature, but some big features to navigate under the watchful eye of your Aquabatics guides.  We will reach the confluence with the Skeena River today before camping by the world class Orgasmatron wave.
  • Day 6:  We will spend the day playing on the Foreplay and Orgasmatron waves, if you are from Alberta (low volume), this will change your perspective on playboating.
  • Day 7:  We will paddle the remaining whitewater and flatwater to our takeout at Kispiox Village.  From here we will head back to Smithers for a final night where we will head out for a group dinner.
  • Day 8:  End of Trip
Prerequisite
  • Confident Class III paddling skills.
  • Very reliable roll in Class III
